Musical Accompaniment

Music stuff - bands, etc...

Some groups, and possibly why I like them.

Beautiful South

I vaguely remembered this group from when I was still in England. Recently a friend of mine was talking about having just ordered an import CD of theirs, and when she visited recently I happily grabbed a copy of two of their CD's and they're really rather good. So I'm sort of a convert now.

Rush

I can still remember the night I became a Rush fan... I'd been at school all afternoon at a Drama Society rehearsal, and was talking to one of the musicians who thought I'd really like Rush... So that evening at the next rehearsal he brought along Moving Pictures, and I took it home and listened to it. I must have played some of the songs over a dozen times. Anyway, I'm a big fan, I have all of the albums that I'm aware of - though I haven't managed to see them in concert yet, bad timing on my behalf mostly.

Ozric Tentacles

Here's an obscure one for everyone.. A strange somewhat trippy English group. I find their music makes for great background listening, as well as providing a good atmosphere for just pondering things and chilling out.

Mike Oldfield

Another Englishman here. He's probably most famous for either the "Tubular Bells" albums, or the song Moonlight Shadow. Most of his music is instrumental, with vocals as more of an instrument than lyrics. One of my favorite albums of his is "Amarok" which consists of a single track of about 60 minutes in length.

Mark Mancina

This guy's a sound track composer, and is responsible for "Twister" and "Speed", amongst others. I find the Twister sound track incredibly energizing and addictive. He's got connections to a number of other artists/producers I'm a great fan of (Trevor Horn, Hans Zimmer, Trevor Rabin, for example). I find it kinda interesting when one artist you think is good has connections to a whole bunch of others.

Daniel's CD List (as of 2001-08-02)

The titles in bold are just some I find particularly good, since I think most of the CD's I own are good anyway, they're not exclusively the good ones, just those that came to mind while I was going through the list.
